Behavior Expectations

I will treat you with respect, so you will know how to treat me.
Feel free to do anything that doesn’t cause a problem for anyone else.
If you cause a problem, I will ask you to solve it.
If you can’t solve the problem, or choose not to, I will do something.
What I do will depend on the special person and the special situation.
If you feel something is unfair, whisper to me, “I’m not sure that’s fair,” and we will talk.

Irving Elementary uses a school-wide discipline system.  Each day, we say the school code: “I will support learning by being a courteous, cooperative, and committed member of the Irving School Community.”  We pledge this as we face the pillars of good character that you see on this page.
Throughout the day, in all areas of our campus, there are three main areas that we ask students to focus on:
  1. Be respectful
  2. Be responsible
  3. Be safe
If a student has some difficulty with any of these, the staff member involved will place a mark on the mark chart or will alert the teacher to do so.  Parents will receive weekly tallies of student marks.  Weekly, monthly, and quarterly school incentives are implemented for students with low amounts of marks during those periods of time.

We also have an incentive program using “Mustang Money.”  Students who display characteristics of being respectful, responsible, and safe can earn “Mustang Money,” which they can use to buy prizes in the "Mustang Mall."  These would be behaviors above and beyond our typical classroom incentives.
